Anyone out and about in Belmont this summer can’t fail to have noticed some beautiful hanging baskets around the parish. Small or large they have certainly put on a very colourful display and brightened up the whole area.
Two of our residents, Linda and Joe who live in Gilesgate have kindly allowed us to put a photograph of their stunning and much admired display of hanging baskets on the website.
Of course Ramside Hall which is in the parish is well know for its spectacular floral displays, winning one of the top prizes in last years Northumbria in Bloom competition. However smaller business premises, such as the Travellers Rest on Broomside Lane, have also had some lovely hanging baskets and tubs on show this year.
With so many lovely gardens in the parish we would like to encourage residents to consider entering the annual Beautiful Durham competition. Entries are closed for this years competition but details of the various categories can be found on the Durham County Council web page. There is even a category for Best Floral Containers which would include hanging baskets.
We will be reminding residents again about the competition in our Spring newsletter to give them plenty of time to enter next year.
